You may enter Swiss territory without a visa if you are a citizen of the European Union (EU) or the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) and in possession of a valid recognized identity document.
If you are not a citizen of Switzerland or of a country in the EU or EFTA, the conditions for entry to Switzerland will vary in relation to your nationality, the reasons for your proposed stay and the length of your stay. If you have a visa of category C or D of another Schengen member state, this visa is also valid for Switzerland during its period of validity.
The website of the State Secretariat for Migration (SEM) will inform you whether or not you require a visa to enter Switzerland and on the travel documents that are recognized.
Lausanne, the smallest of Switzerland's four main cities, is easily accessible by by rail (CFF network, EC Direct and TGV from Paris and Milan), road (A1/E25 and A9/E27 motorways), by air, and even by water, thanks to the boats operated by the Compagnie Générale de Navigation on Lake Geneva.

If you're flying in, Genève-Cointrin is the nearest international airport. By train, it takes ~45 minutes to reach Lausanne. Zürich Airport is about ~2.5 hours away by train.

We highly recommend using public transportation (Metro M1, stop EPFL) to come to the event as it is by far the best way to get around in Lausanne. If you are staying in a hotel, a youth hostel, a bed & breakfast or at a campsite where the tourist tax is applied, you are entitled to the Lausanne Transport Card. With this card, you can freely use all public transport (bus, train, metro) in Lausanne and its surroundings during your stay (maximum 15 days). Make sure to request that card at your hotel reception if it is not automatically delivered to you. Please note that stays in private accommodation are not eligible for this offer.
